In this increasingly challenging era, the excellence of a student is not dependent solely on academic achievement as students need to have a sense of pride in their identity, various skills and respect for others. Additionally, students need to have knowledge related to the outside world to face future challenges.
Global Citizenship is about promoting children to build the knowledge, skills and the values needed to adapt them in the present era. Among the keywords closely related to the global citizenship are the ability to question, to make connections and to provide insights and to critically evaluate issues. In order to realize that goal, students should be exposed to activities that can generate their curiosity and critical thinking.
This year, as a continuation of Asia-Pacific Teachers Exchange Program (Korea-Malaysia) or KOMTEP last year, the School Resource Center Committee of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pemberian has planned activities that will provide exposure to students on foreign cultures, especially those related to South Korea. The program is designed to open the minds of students in this school in promoting Global Citizenship Education (GCED) which is also one of the focus in Ministry of Education.
It is hoped that at the end of the program students will be able to:
- Establish the personality and identity of the student as a global citizen
- Appreciate the culture and traditions of foreign countries
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of a global citizen
